| Bio: | The captain of the errand-riders and the personal messenger for the king of Gondor, Karigan is the longest-standing foreign-born woman to work directly in the citadel for the king. She is the oldest errand-rider in Minas Tirith, and perhaps the oldest rider in active service, and considered to be the fastest; she has been riding for twenty-two years. She is also the only known spy of Elessar's who also served Denethor. Born in Umbar to a Black Numenorean woman and a Gondorian man, Karigan spent the first 7 years of her life in Umbar, learning the languages and customs of the Umbareans. After the death of her father, she lived as a street rat in Minas Tirith until she was taken on as a foot messenger for the errand-riders, eventually working her way into the ranks at the age of 17. She is now on the cusp of her 40th birthday. Known by name and reputation, she has a fiery temperment and a sullen disposition, as well-known for her contentious wit and argumentive nature as she is for her services. But what distinguishes her from other riders is not that she is a woman, but her nationality. Gifted with an uncanny ability to blend into many of the southern cultures, she is often used as a spy, largely because she is fluent in a wide sampling of southern languages. She is filled with an insatiable need for travel and discovery, which has lead her to become a rather skilled cartographer, being the maker of half a dozen maps of poorly explored southern territories. But Karigan is also an extremely secretive person; there are large gaps in her history that are simply unknown, or known only in the sketchiest detail. She is a deeply troubled personality, but where it all begins and ends is not known in full by anyone but herself, for she does not trust easily, and hides as much as she reveals. It has recently come to light she is descended from an infamous line of witches, though it's a fact Karigan takes no pride in. She lives in the shadow of her heritage, never at home anywhere but on the road, outrunning her troubles.
